Maple

ahorn

A wood of medium strength and density, mostly yellowish white sometimes slightly tan in colour and easily recognizable by its pronounced, often highly decorative reflective sheen. I use mostly Austrian, sometimes also Canadian mountain maple.

Of all the woods I use for the instruments, this has the longest grain. Its surface structure is somewhat porose which lends itself for the use in historically early instruments to recreate a more open, somewhat "unrefined"   sound pattern.

Maple is very flexible and resilient to cracks. It does not require much care except for regular oiling.
